The dip in disc manufacture demand or surplus UK disc manufacture capacity has certainly made it a buyer's market. It has certainly been a wild time for clients, with some plants working below cost on some jobs simply to hold on to clients.
Now that really is mad.
Perhaps things are changing; In the last year UK Disc manufacturing capacity dropped by 27%.
Last year Thamesdown in Swindon were bought by ODS, and significantly reduced its output capacity. Technicolor, once the largest plant in UK, closed down their disc operations here. Disctronics, Europa and Deluxe are no longer active
names. On Valentines day 2007 I received a letter from the receiver acting for the liquidation of the Lynic Group plant in Slough UK.
Will falling supply mean higher prices? Well, we certainly hope not.
Perhaps it is because we have a small facility, work in the B2B market and are able to respond quickly that our manufacturing plant in Slough grows stronger each day....
